In the book of Acts Luke writes, “They [the early church] devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer” (2:42). Their growth came from learning from the apostles whom Jesus taught and commissioned, fellowship with one another, and meeting together regularly. Our mission at One Stone Nashville is to create an environment, like the early church, where brothers and sisters can meet together regularly for discipleship and fellowship. We want to raise up disciples of Jesus who are walking in their true identity of who the Father says they are, who are restored, who are empowered in their spiritual gifts and callings, and who are sent out to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. One way this mission is lived out is through Unity Groups. A Unity Group is a group of people who meet together on a regular basis around a common interest, such as a Bible study, prayer, hobby, or a life stage.
The underlying foundation of each community group is love. Peter writes, “Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart” (1 Peter 1:22). Because love for others comes from a heart that has been transformed by the Father’s love, our desire at One Stone Nashville is for every heart to be transformed by the Father’s love. Unity Groups are to be safe places where people learn who their Father says they are, and to build relationships with others who will speak that love into their lives. Unity Groups are to be safe places where authenticity, transparency, and intentionality are lived out. Every individual is to be accepted, respected, and listened to where they are without stones being thrown by other group members (John 8:7). As relationships grow, these groups are to be places where members are to be challenged to grow in their faith, encouraged to step out into their giftings, and where members are held accountable to live out the ways of the Kingdom.
Unity Groups are an important part of the One Stone Nashville culture. It is in the context of a group that brothers and sisters get to know each other and are known by others. We believe it is in the context of a group lasting life change and true fellowship and accountability take place; and authenticity, transparency, and intentionality are practiced.
